Vintage Nero Lemania Split-Second Chronograph Rattrapante Pocket Watch.

An impressive oversized Swiss chronograph measuring approximately 65mm without the crown, produced by Lemania, one of the most respected names in the history of chronograph watchmaking. Founded in Switzerland in 1884, Lemania became renowned for manufacturing high-grade chronograph movements and later supplied movements to numerous prestigious brands, including Omega.

This watch features a Split-Second Chronograph (Rattrapante) complication, one of the most sophisticated mechanisms in traditional watchmaking. The rattrapante system allows two elapsed times to be measured simultaneously using two central chronograph seconds hands. Originally developed for sporting events, racing and professional timing applications, these watches were used when intermediate times needed to be recorded without stopping the main timing sequence.

Large-format Lemania pocket chronographs of this type were commonly used by sports officials, trainers and race timekeepers during the mid-20th century. Their oversized cases and highly legible dials made them ideal precision timing instruments. Comparable Lemania split-second chronographs from the 1950s are known among collectors as some of the most desirable vintage timing watches produced by the company.
