The balance appears to be present and moves freely; however, the movement is offered strictly as a project movement and should be assumed to require inspection, servicing, repair, or restoration before use.

Fusee movements are among the most desirable forms of early mechanical watchmaking. Designed to provide a more consistent delivery of power from the mainspring, the fusee mechanism utilised a chain and cone-shaped fusee to improve timekeeping performance. Such movements were widely used in quality British pocket watches throughout the nineteenth century and remain highly sought after by collectors today.

Founded in the nineteenth century, Mappin & Webb became one of Britain’s most prestigious jewellers and watch retailers, supplying high-quality timepieces through their London establishments. Antique pocket watches bearing the Mappin & Webb name continue to attract collectors due to their historical significance and association with one of Britain’s best-known luxury retailers.
